Using Technology
Have been doing some ‘playing’ with programs, how frustrating at times… get it looking great then just can’t get the bits to all fall into place. Back to the drawing board again to have another go or simply just put it to the side for another day when I have a spare minute.
Visual Design / website design
Been working on changes with the website. I reckon I’m slowly getting the hang of this stuff; (well programs) still more to learn, been working in CSS but still having a challenge with getting pages to link, hence it’s not up on the site as yet.
Instructional design
Looking at a number of areas & just how things can be put together to suit the different areas for the businesses I’m working with. Yep still a way to go yet.
E-Learning methodologies
Still collecting information. There is so much information on the net, one could simple
get consumed & loose site of the original objective of why one was searching in the first place.
The e-learner
From a personal point of view in doing this course!!!
I think I maybe mistakenly misunderstood the documentation of the course information. Have gone back to re-read it all especially under the heading of Course Expectations……..mmmm yep well just what does one say……
The format of it all set out sounds great.
Have just recently read the article from What Do You Mean When You Say "Usability"?
By Carol M. Barnum, Southern Polytechnic State University
Extracts From This Article
No amount of review, assessment, validation, or any other metric conducted by experts can confirm the usability of a course. Only the user can do that. And you are not the user.
While there are many worthwhile activities you can pursue to improve the usability of your e-learning course, there is only one sure-fire way to confirm the usability: You must watch and listen to your users while they are engaged in the process of using the course in pursuit of a meaningful goal.
definition of usability - "the result of actions taken after observing, listening, and learning from real users who are actively engaged in pursuit of a real learning goal."
I have no doubt that this is something we need to take note of, from both the student perspective as well as the facilitator perspective.
Virtual communities
These concepts are great and can do some much in the learning field. Yet in saying this there is also the huge opening of things falling over and projects not being completed. This being due to a number of facts:
§ Individuals of the group not providing contact details for members of the group to contact them.
§ Details not being clear as to just what is to be done in the group work.
§ The various means of Virtual Community types in how students communicate
§ Virtual communities working in the first place
To name a few possibilities.
